In Lynnwood, Washington, there’s a fitness facility that strives to be unlike any other in the area. Sound Sports Performance and Training LLC is a place for all to heal, build, and grow together. Since opening in 2021, winning Best Marketing Video at Business Impact NW’s IMPACT Pitch competition in 2023, and many other successes in between, Owner and CEO Federick Brooks is proud to say that his business dream has not only taken shape—it’s taken off.
Over the last three years, his facility has upgraded—more than once—to a bigger, newer space. Six girls’ hockey teams and two softball teams now do regular strength and conditioning training with Federick and his coaching team. That’s around 120 girls who have said yes to becoming stronger!
Today, Federick is gearing up to compete as a finalist once again in IMPACT Pitch 2026. Here’s what he shared when asked how life has been since we last checked in, and what he’s most excited about:
How does it feel to be back in the finals?
It feels really good to be back here again. Last year was a big transition as we doubled in size and operations. It’s a huge honor to be selected against a very competitive field. Winning would help us hire additional staff, create scholarships, and build a lasting legacy within Lynnwood. (Possibly other cities to come.)
You were recently recognized as the 2026 Northwest Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) Client of the Year and shared that you hope to make a bigger impact within your community this year. What does that mean to you?
With so many girls training with us, I think it’s important to have a social cause that directly affects females. My former wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, which means there’s a higher risk for my own daughter. For that reason, Sound Sports Performance and Training will be recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Our team is currently looking for ways to partner with local physicians and other social causes involving awareness and early screening.
What else have you been up to?
I was able to send my son to college in California and continue to be active in several organizations. Those include the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the Lynnwood Parks and Recreation Foundation, and Black Owned Business Excellence (BOBE). I also became an Ambassador for the Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce. My team and I get to dress up for the upcoming Community Service and Leadership Gala. Plus, September is my birthday month!
There’s still time to get your tickets to support all of our finalists at IMPACT Pitch 2026. IMPACT Pitch is the live final of a multi-round competition where entrepreneurs strengthen their business model, sharpen their pitch, and prepare to share what they are building with people who may fund, buy from, refer, or champion their business.
