How to Get Into Grocery

← Back to On-Demand Classes

This presentation is designed for emerging producers who are preparing to bring their products into the grocery retail space. We will cover the key elements needed to ensure your product is truly retail-ready, from operational basics to what buyers look for when evaluating new brands.

The session is intended for passionate makers who are committed not only to creating great products, but also to actively supporting their success through sampling, in-store presence, and promotional efforts.  We will discuss the importance of doing your homework before approaching retail buyers and building a product that is positioned for success. This includes focusing on three critical areas:

Innovation – What makes your product new, different, or exciting for customers

Viability – Your ability to produce, deliver, and sustain the product in a retail environment

Packaging – Shelf-ready design that communicates value and stands out in store Buyers ultimately look for products that meet real consumer needs and expectations. During the presentation we will explore the questions retailers consider when evaluating a new product:

  • Is it more convenient?
  • Does it solve a problem for the customer?
  • Will it generate repeat purchases?
  • Is the cost and retail price competitive within the category?

Participants will also be encouraged to clearly articulate their key differentiator, the unique element that makes their product stand out in a crowded marketplace.
