SUMMARY:Package & Price Services to Maximize Revenue
DESCRIPTION:Deciding what to charge for services is a balancing act. With Value- Based Pricing\, service fees are based on your competitive advantage and brand (perceived value). The main goal is to better align fees/pricing with the value delivered. In this session\, we will discuss how to price and package services to move the discussion away from price to the outcome. \nRecorded: October 2021 for the 25th  Washington Biz Fair Webinar:  The longest running all government and non-profit-run small business fair in Washington State. The Biz Fair is free to attend and the goal is to help current and aspiring small business owners learn from experts on how to start or grow their business. \nSusan Perreault\, D.B.A.\, M.B.A.\, is a the Director of the Washington Women’s Business Center at Business Impact NW. Prior to joining WWBC/BINW\, Ms. Perreault earned a doctorate in business administration and spent much of her career as an entrepreneur and in senior management positions in the professional beauty industry. SUMMARY:Farm-to-Food Assistance: Intro to Community-Centered Wholesaling
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the expansion of funded “farm to community” programs\, the emergency food system of food pantries\, meals programs\, and other food assistance providers has developed as a viable market channel within WA’s broader food system\, providing farmers with a flexible avenue for business growth and food waste reduction\, on top of community connections. Led by Seattle-based nonprofit Harvest Against Hunger\, this two-part learning series is for small-scale farmers who are new to wholesaling and would like an introduction to wholesaling through contracting with food assistance organizations. \nSessions will cover basic information about these organizations and what farmers should think about when developing a new purchasing relationship\, including general operation strategies of emergency food systems\, networking\, pricing\, and contracting. Through interactive discussions\, we will also explore other ways farms can support food assistance programs while also maintaining a steady income stream\, and discuss challenges encountered in the food assistance system. \nThis presentation and discussion will be led by Maddie Price\, Farm to Community Program Manager for Harvest Against Hunger and Ellis Fahsholtz\, Farm to Community VISTA. Harvest Against Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission “to help feed hungry people with surplus nutritious produce”. They work to connect farmers\, transportation providers and food banks\, develop and share innovative hunger relief solutions\, and engage the public in hunger relief. \n  \nThis 2-part webinar was recorded 12/7/2021 and 12/14/2021

SUMMARY:Payroll Essentials for Farmers in WA State
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to start hiring employees now or in the near future and want to better understand payroll? In this presentation\, accountant Jocelyn Campbell covers the essentials around payroll for farmers in Washington state. Topics include new hire forms\, payroll requirements (e.g. sick leave\, overtime\, state and federal taxes)\, how to categorize employees\, and a brief overview of payroll systems. The links in the presentation will be available upon request after registration. Please contact fbrc@businessimpactnw.org for more information. \nThank you to the WA State Department of Agriculture who helped fund this presentation through their Specialty Crop Block Grant. \n  \nAbout the presenter \nJocelyn grew up and raised her two kids in the woodsy suburbs of Seattle. Her passion for sustainability led her to spend 7 years in Montana helping to manage a 220-acre permaculture education site. As of mid-2020\, Jocelyn is joyfully back in the Seattle area\, growing her accounting business\, gardening\, and pushing farm-to-table food onto her friends and family. In her corporate days\, Jocelyn was the accounting manager for the builder of an urban village designed community. There\, she gained valuable experience with annual corporate audits\, non-profit accounting\, and learned that some corporations really do walk the talk of a triple bottom line. Now\, Jocelyn’s favorite businesspeople are the mom-and-pops\, family owners\, or solopreneurs – especially those with small farms and non-profits. Three years ago\, Emily (Jocelyn’s daughter)\, and one year ago\, Melinda\, (Jocelyn’s friend for decades – we won’t say how long!) joined the team that is Alchemilla Services LLC to provide bookkeeping and payroll services in addition to Jocelyn’s QuickBooks consulting.
