Business Expert Session: Succession Planning for your Farm: How to Start and What to Consider

March 23 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

business expert sessions

It’s never too early to plan for a successful transition of your farm. Join Andrea Krahmer from Oregon Agricultural Trust as she discusses how to get the conversation started, what to consider for family or non-familial succession, and how to make sure the right people are at the table to work through obstacles.  We’ll take it a step further and walk through the things to think about before, during, and after transition including how working land easements can be a tool. We will talk about knowledge transfer of key operational information from one generation to the next, mentorship, a timeline for transition, and resources to gather as you work through the process. This is an important session to catch, whether you plan on using the information immediately or many years down the line.

About the Presenter

Andrea Krahmer – Oregon Agricultural Trust

Andrea’s lifelong love of agriculture started growing up on her small family farm in rural Washington County.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business Management from Oregon State University on the La Grande campus and relocated back to the Willamette Valley after college.  She now lives and operates her own farm in Salem with her family who are all also very active in agriculture.  Andrea is the Education Program Director for Oregon Agricultural Trust, a statewide non-profit land trust working to protect farmland farming in perpetuity.  She works directly with farmers and ranchers across the state supporting succession planning including how working land easements can aid in transitioning operations to the next generation.
